Rendell signs infection-prevention law |

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell signed a new law requiring nursing homes, hospitals, and outpatient surgery centers to develop infection control plans and implement infection control monitoring systems by the end of 2008.
The facilities will be required to report infections to the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority (PPSA), the State Department of Health (DOH), and the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council.

One in ten Scottish hospital patients 'suffering infection' |
The results from one of the most comprehensive studies ever done in Europe found that almost 10% of people in Scottish Hospitals had a HAI (Healthcare Associated Infection). On an individual hospital basis the scores ranged from 6.8% to upwards of 18%.
The Study results have sparked the Scottish Health Secretary to look at ways to reduce the rate of infection within the Scottish Health System.
