A book about the importance of the environment that care professionals and infection control practitioners work within in order to protect patients, staff, and visitors from health care-acquired infections.

This book explores the Critical relationship between Environment of Care (EC) and Infection Control (IC) in today’s health care organization. It is designed to help EC professionals — facilities managers, building engineers, environmental services managers — and their IC partners develop programs that will protect their own employees, as well as patients, visitors, and other staff, from Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI's).

The book then goes on to delve deeper into the working partnership between EC and IC employees, discusses education and training.  It also attempts to take on the thorny issue of hand hygiene, which includes the issue of the placement of hand rub dispensers. The hand hygiene guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are also provided in full.
